Choosing a connection speed

When you publish your e-show to the Web, it is essential that you choose the right encoding speed. For example, if your target audience is going to access your e-show using a dial-up Internet connection, you would choose 28.8K modems or 56K modems. On the other hand, if they are using a direct Internet or intranet connection, you would optimize your e-show for a higher connection speed.

Choosing a higher connection speeds will produce better sounding audio and a better picture quality but if it is too fast for your audience's connection, they will not be able to view your attached media clip. Therefore, we recommend that you choose to encode your media for the slowest connection speed your audience is likely to use.

If you publish to a server that is not running RealServer, you may see long "buffering" times before each section starts playing. If you experience this, you should encode your media clip for 28.8K or 56K connections. This will shrink the size of the streaming media and reduce the buffering time.
